What are you putting down your Drains?

Being aware of what you are putting down your drains is vital to your home plumbing and the environment. So we thought we would give you some tips for around the home this summer.

Summer is also a good time for us to get out about and do the odd job around the home and when we do we want to make sure we are not putting any nasties down our drains.

The following items are just a few to NOT put into stormwater drains, sinks and toilets.

  • garden fertilisers,
  • chemicals and soil from gardens
  • oils and grease
  • bacteria and micro-organisms from animal droppings
  • Litter items such as plastic bags, drink containers, food wrappers and cigarette butts.
  • paint, thinners
  • swimming pool backwash waters (not to stormwater)
  • leaves, grass and garden clippings
  • pesticides

Substances put in stormwater drains flow untreated directly to the local river, creek and oceans. We all want to enjoy our environment and look after the wildlife as well. Enjoy Your Summer!
